Joan Miró exhibition at Palazzo Blu, Pisa

The exhibition has been organised jointly by the Pisa Cassa di Risparmio Foundation and the Joan Mirò Foundation in Barcelona.

"Joan Miró. I miti del Mediterraneo", a retrospective on the works of the great, polyhedric artist. From October 8th to 2011 January 23rd, Palazzo Blu in Pisa will host a new fascinating journey through art, culture and the Mediterranean Sea: The new exhibition of paintings by the Catalan artist Joan Mirò.

The exhibition, which will offer 110 works of the artist’s paintings, drawings, lithographs and sculptures . Like Picasso, Mirò was much disturbed and affected by the Spanish Civil War and the exhibition includes a series of prints featuring women at war. After World War 11, Mirò explored the Mediterranean via its relationship with classical mythology and poetry. “Constellazioni", a series of 22 panels, each accompanied by a poem by the surrealist poet André Breton, is also on display.

With his production, Joan Miró i Ferrà - painter, ceramist and sculptor - has immensely contributed to the development of some of the most significant XX century movements: together with René Magritte and Salvador Dalì.

Aside from the visitable Foundation offices, Palazzo Blu in Pisa also hosts the Foundation art collection: paintings and pieces of furniture which, inside the elegant Palace halls, re-evoke the prestige and the elegance of an ancient aristocratic mansion. Among the works exposed are scupltures and paintings and pisan authors.
